Medical Coding Specialist - ASC Cardiology Coder

We are seeking an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Cardiology Coder responsible for accurately reviewing, interpreting, and coding outpatient cardiology and cardiovascular procedures performed in an ASC setting, ensuring all documentation supports assigned codes and complies with federal, state, and payer-specific regulations. This role involves assigning CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes for cardiology procedures including diagnostic, invasive, and interventional cases; validating code selection against operative reports, procedure notes, diagnostic results, and physician documentation; and applying appropriate modifiers to ensure accurate ASC billing. You will ensure compliance with CMS guidelines, NCCI edits, payer-specific policies, and ASC billing requirements while identifying documentation gaps and querying physicians when clarification is needed. Additional responsibilities include participating in coding audits and implementing corrective actions to maintain high accuracy standards, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to resolve coding issues, and supporting billing teams with coding-related inquiries and appeals. You will also provide education and feedback to clinical staff to improve cardiology documentation and maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, cardiovascular procedures, and ASC-specific regulations through ongoing training and continuing education. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent (associate degree preferred), along with CPC, COC, or CCS-P certification, with specialty cardiology coding credentials preferred. Candidates should have 2–3 years of outpatient coding experience, including at least 1 year focused on cardiology or cardiovascular procedures, along with strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, terminology, and ASC billing rules. Additional requirements include proficiency in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems, strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and experience with EMR/EHR systems and coding software.
