Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

• Accept and dispense prescription medications
• Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns
• Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law
• Ensure that the medicines prescribed to patients are suitable
• Accurately maintain confidential records of all patients
• Advise patients about medicines, including how to take them
• Provide consultation on medications for storage, dosage, side effects, and drug interactions
• Provide services to patients, such as smoking cessation and cholesterol management
• Educate patients on handling medical devices
• Compound medications for use and prepare sterile solutions
• Supervise pharmacy staff members
• Maintain appropriate inventory on supplies
• Identify drug-related problems and communicate effectively with healthcare practitioners
• Work with physicians, nurses, and other pharmacists

Requirements of the Pharmacist

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
• Licensed by the state pharmacy board
