Key Responsibilities of the Respiratory Therapist

• Confirm physician orders, assess for appropriateness, and ensure quality patient care
• Notify physician, nurse, and/or other hospital staff of any unusual reactions observed
• Evaluate and monitor patient for tolerance and response to therapy and treatment
• Explain treatment procedures to patients and address any concerns or questions
• Perform respiratory/pulmonary procedures per department policy or protocol
• Respond to emergencies and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Maintain proficiency in Respiratory Care skills through continued education

Requirements of the Respiratory Therapist

• Graduate of an A.M.A. or CoARC approved program for Respiratory Therapists
• Valid Ohio license (RCP) to practice Respiratory Care
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) & obtain RRT within 120 days
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Ability to effectively interact with diverse patient populations
• 2+ years of recent experience in an acute care setting
