Key Responsibilities of the Respiratory Therapist

• Perform patient assessments and administer therapies including oxygen, aerosol medication, and chest physiotherapy
• Assist with bronchoscopies and the placement of artificial airways
• Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation
• Respond to emergent patient situations ensuring airway integrity and ventilation during resuscitation
• Assist at high-risk deliveries for neonatal stabilization or resuscitation
• Serve as a clinical resource, providing education to patients, families, and staff
• Maintain respiratory therapy equipment including setup, operation, cleaning, sterilization, and storage

Requirements of the Respiratory Therapist

• RCP license with Texas Medical Board
• RRT with National Board for Respiratory Care
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification
• Critical care experience with adults
