Job Description

Lovelace Medical Center is seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical to join its 8th Floor Med/Surg team.

The selected candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients, including stroke patients and post-surgical patients. Responsibilities include patient assessments, medication administration, wound care, IV management, telemetry monitoring, and coordination with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience for first-time travelers.
• Previous travel experience is not required.
• Current Epic charting experience required.
• Ability to manage a 1:6 patient ratio.
• Strong Med/Surg, MS/Tele, or Telemetry experience.
• Ability to work night shifts and weekends.
• Must be willing to float as required.

Required Certifications

• BLS - Required
• CPI - Preferred

Clinical Skills & Experience

Respiratory Care

• BiPAP/CPAP management.
• Oxygen administration and nasal cannula.
• Chest tube management.
• Oral suctioning.

IV Therapy & Vascular Access

• Starting and maintaining IVs.
• Peripheral and PICC line management.
• Blood product administration.
• IV therapy and phlebotomy.

Medical-Surgical & Telemetry

• Med/Surg and MS/Tele nursing.
• Cardiac monitoring.
• Telemetry experience.
• Stroke and CVA patient care.
• Pre/post-neurosurgery care.
• Spinal cord injury management.

Additional Clinical Skills

• Wound care and wound vac management.
• Isolation precautions and PPE.
• Heparin, insulin, and PCA medication administration.
• Surgical drain management.
• Total joint replacement care.

Preferred Skills

• Colostomy/ileostomy care.
• Feeding tube management.
• Pre/post-hemodialysis management.
• Renal failure patient care.
• Remote telemetry monitoring.
• Rapid Response and Code Team experience.

Unit & Facility Details

• Unit: Medical/Surgical - 8th Floor
• Beds: 39
• Rooms: 31
• Daily Census: Approximately 30
• Patient Ratio: 1:6 across all shifts.
• Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics.
• Telemetry Monitoring: Central monitoring technician available 24/7.
• Nurses are not required to interpret dysrhythmias.

Schedule & Additional Details

• Night shift: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM.
• 4x12-hour schedule.
• 36-hour or 48-hour weekly options.
• Weekend shifts required as needed.
• Floating is required.
• Self-scheduling available.
• 24 hours of orientation.
• One pre-approved time-off request allowed.
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are NOT accepted.
