Unit Overview

• 36 treatment beds
• 10 vertical care spaces
• 3 trauma bays
• Average daily volume: 49-155 patients
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required in a Level III Trauma Center or higher
• First-time travelers accepted
• Clinical interview required with manager approval

Required Certifications

Required:

• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• TNCC
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• De-escalation Course Certification

Preferred:

• NRP
• STABLE
• ENPC

Patient Population

This busy Emergency Department cares for both adult and pediatric patients (no PICU onsite; pediatric patients requiring intensive care are transferred).

Common diagnoses and presentations include:

• Trauma
• STEMI / Myocardial Infarction
• Stroke
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Respiratory conditions
• Gastrointestinal disorders
• Liver and kidney emergencies
• Behavioral health emergencies
• Alcohol withdrawal (CIWA)
• Critically ill patients

Patient Ratios

• RN Ratio: 1:1 to 1:4
• Assignments vary based on acuity, patient volume, and unit pod assignment.
