Travel Stepdown Registered Nurse - Mount Airy, NC Up to $2,193/Week Nights

Nexus MedPro Staffing is seeking an experienced Stepdown / Progressive Care Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel nursing assignment at a reputable healthcare facility in Mount Airy, North Carolina.

Position Overview

The Stepdown Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to adult patients who require closer monitoring and treatment than a traditional Medical-Surgical unit but do not require full intensive care services.

This position requires strong experience in cardiac telemetry, progressive care, neurological stepdown, and the management of patients with complex medical conditions.

The ideal candidate is comfortable interpreting cardiac rhythms, managing IV medications and cardiac drips, responding to changes in patient conditions, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

Assignment Details

Location: Mount Airy, NC

Weekly Pay: Up to $2,193

Start Date: November 16, 2026

Duration: 13 weeks

Schedule: Nights, 3 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM-7:15 AM)

Hours: 36 hours per week

Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, approximately 12 weekend shifts per contract

Floating: Required between Stepdown and ICU based on census and staffing needs

On-Call: None

Setting: Acute Care Hospital - Intermediate Critical Care / Stepdown

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Stepdown, Progressive Care, Intermediate Care, or comparable acute care settings

Active North Carolina RN license or eligible compact RN license

Current ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and Stroke Life Support certifications

Experience with cardiac telemetry, MS/Tele, Neuro Stepdown, or Progressive Care

Meditech charting experience required

Ability to manage patient assignments with a target ratio of 1:4

Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia management

Experience with cardiac drips, heparin protocols, and IV insulin protocols

Experience managing central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, and implanted ports

Knowledge of respiratory support, including BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and ABG interpretation

Experience caring for patients with strokes and other neurological conditions

Ability to respond to emergencies and collaborate with rapid response teams

Willingness to float between Stepdown and ICU as required

First-time travel nurses may be considered if they meet all clinical requirements.

Previous travel nursing experience

Charge nurse experience

Teaching hospital or community hospital experience
